What is Upward Bound?
In short, we are a college prep program that is funded by the federal government. Our job is to help 59 students develop the skills and motivation to graduate high school and enter into & succeed in college. These students are from Ellinwood, Great Bend, and Hoisington.
Students in our program attend colleges and universities all over the United States. Many students are even on full ride scholarships at the institutions they attend.

What can Barton County Upward Bound do for you?
Employment:
*Summer Positions: BCUB hires area high school teachers to teach daytime courses during the month of June every summer as a part of our Residential Intensive Summer Experience for students. This is a great time to test out hands on projects in your field before running them with your students.
*Weekend Tutor: BCUB also hires teachers and current college students to work as a tutor for BCUB students on the Barton Campus on the weekends throughout the school year.
-If you are interested in either of these positions please email the program director, Kelsey Hall, at hallk@bartonccc.edu.
Community Engagement:
BCUB prides itself on encouraging community engagement with our students. We would love to discuss community projects with you.
*Classroom Interactions: BCUB has a strong emphasis on literacy. Our students complete many book clubs throughout the year but we also want to spread the joy of reading with younger students. We have hosted classroom projects that can vary from buddy reading to writing their own book.
*Service Projects: BCUB also volunteers their time with many organizations including United Way, Great Bend Chamber of Commerce, & Barton Cougar Closet.
-If you are interested in either of these community engagement opportunities, please email the program director, Kelsey Hall, at hallk@bartonccc.edu.
Finally, we appreciate your student referrals. If you know of a student who is college bound and looking for extra resources, please have them complete the request form so that we can mail them an application. We pride ourselves on the high achieving and hard working students we are able to serve and so many of them are because of teacher and student referrals.
